The end of Profsoyuznaya Street to the intersection with Ostrovityanova Street

19 photographs, including works mounted on stretchers, 594 × 420 mm + accordion

The work was created for an exhibition devoted to the theme of the “Outskirts” (Rodchenko School, 2023).

In this work, I was interested in considering how a visual template, the full-length portrait, might be applied to a kind of pilgrimage or reenactment of an event that could never have produced documents of this sort. After studying texts and photographs related to the Bulldozer Exhibition, I came to the conclusion that this format could, on the one hand, make a certain statement, through the absence or presence of a painting and/or its replacement by something else, including a musical instrument, and, on the other, attempt to “assemble in advance” something that might one day acquire archival value.

The people in the photographs belong to different creative professions, as indicated by the objects they hold, and at the same time appear here both as themselves and as “someone else,” since the situation is artificial. What remains is only an illusory unity of place: against a wall, or in an excavation pit that seems to offer greater visual freedom.

The series was created with the participation of regular guests of the art evenings held at 44/2 Plyushchikha Street.
